Liebster Award

Hello my loves!

Recently I was nominated for a Liebster Award!  The gorgeous Izzy of Daisy Chains in the Rain (pop over to her blog for some good reads!) is my nominator and I am so happy to be included in such a fun award!  For those of you who may not know, a Liebster Award is when a blogger nominates eleven other bloggers who have less than 200 blog followers and ask them a list of eleven random questions/facts about themselves.

The rules of the award:
1) Link the person who has nominated you
2) Answer the questions given by the nominator
3) Nominate 11 other blogs
4) Create 11 questions for the nominees to answer
5) Notify all nominees through social media/their blogs

Questions From Izzy:

1) What is your favourite pizza topping and why? My favorite pizza topping is mushrooms because not many people I know like mushrooms on their pizza.  This ensures that my pizza will never be stolen from me!
2) Who is your favourite Actor/Actress, and what is your favourite film that they’re in? Definitely Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect!  I just love that movie so much and I bet the second one will be just as good!
3) Name a product you love that cost under £5. Since I am American, I translated this into US dollars which would be about $8.00 and a product that I love that is under $8.00 is the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer!  I have been using it for a couple of years now and nothing else I've tried compares to it!
4) When did you start blogging and what was your first post? I started blogging in December of 2013 and my first post was "And Break Begins!" Winter break from college had just started, so it seemed like a good time to try my hand at blogging.
5) What was your New Years resolution and have you kept it so far? This year I had a few New Years resolutions that I talked about in my post, "A New Year and the Return to Blogging".  Out of the five I set for myself, I have stuck with two and the others are too early to tell if they will stick or not.  The ones that I have kept so far are to read more and to blog more.
6) Name a Blog or Blog post that inspires you. I think the Blog that has inspired me the most is Sprinkle of Glitter.  I love how Louise does the #glittergetsfitter and the motivational posts that help to keep herself and her readers in a positive mood.  It's just really refreshing and nice to see when something pops up in my newsfeed from her whether it be a blog post, a video, or a simple tweet.
7) What’s your favourite high street store? My favorite high street store is T.K. Maxx (T.J. Maxx here in the states).  I love going in here and looking at the home wares and such.  I always am able to find a good deal whenever I walk in.
8) What’s your favourite shade of lipstick? This changes quite often, but currently my favorite shade of lipstick is a pinkish hue.  Specifically, my favorite lipstick at the moment is the New York Color Ultra Moist Lipstick in shade 319, Violet Shine.
9) What is your favourite thing about the place where you live? I think my favorite thing about living in New England would have to be the weather.  My mum used to tell me, "wait a minute and it will change", and she was right.  One day it will be so cold you don't want to go outside if you don't have to and then the next day it can feel like spring time.  It's crazy and hard to plan for, but I think I would miss it if/when I leave.
10) What’s your biggest pet peeve? My biggest pet peeve is people who ask questions during movies! I hate sitting down to a movie (whether I have seen it or not) and having someone asking me questions.  If I have not seen the movie before, then why would I know the answer to your question, or if I have seen the movie before why are we watching it again? I can answer questions without sitting through it.
11) Describe a makeup look or fashion trend that you’ve never tried out but really want to! I really want to try winged eyeliner!  I have attempted it before, but I haven't been successful, so I would really like to try it and be successful because it looks amazing on everyone that I see wearing it!
Well, that took a little longer than I thought it would.  Some questions I had answers to right away and others required some thought.  It was a good mix!
My 11 Questions:
1) How did you pick your blog name?
2) What's your favorite makeup brush brand?
3) If you were to travel any place in the world, where would it be and why?
4) Where do you find inspiration?
5) What was your last beauty purchase?
6) Why is your best friend your best friend?
7) What is your favorite song at the moment?
8) What is your favorite makeup brand?
9) How would you describe yourself in five words or less?
10) Which do you like better: curls or straight hair?
11) What is your favorite TV show at the moment?

Makeup Collection: Decluttering and Cleaning Out

Hello my loves!

We are well into 2015 and as they say, it's out with the old and in with the new!  Recently I've noticed that I have acquired quite a few makeup products over the past year and I have decided that it is time for a good clean out and declutter.  In a perfect world I would like to do this a couple times a year, but we all know that things come up (work, school, pure laziness) and it just doesn't happen! So, your collections may end up looking a little like mine...

When this happens, there is only one way I know how to figure out what to part with and that is to divide and conquer.  Starting with everything in one big pile, I like to divide everything out into categories (eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner, etc.) and then I can see what I tend to buy the most of.  This will be helpful for in the future when going to purchase a piece of makeup.  For me, my problem areas tend to be eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner, and nail polish.

After dividing and identifying I will go through and pull out my everyday makeup and set that aside.  Chances are, if you use something everyday, it's a keeper! Next I go through each category and look at the shades.  Do I have any duplicates? Do I still like the shade? Has it expired? When was the last time I used it? These are all questions that need to be answered honestly if you want to make any progress when cleaning out your makeup collection.  I know it can be hard to part with some items, but in the end it will be worth it.  Just imagine all the empty space waiting to be filled with new 2015 favorites!

Something to keep in mind when trying to decide whether to keep or toss a piece of makeup is the lifespan of the product.  Everyone says something different when it comes to the life of makeup, but I like to stick with these time frames.

          Mascara: 1 year
          Eyeliner: 18 months
          Liquid Eyeliner: 6 months
          Eyeshadow: 18 months
          Blush/Bronzer: 18 months
          Lipstick/Lip Gloss: 18 months
          Lipliner: 1 year
          Foundation/Concealer: 1 year
          Nail Polish: 1 year

If you are still unsure about whether a product is still good, check the consistency of it.  If it's separated or clumpy, chances are it belongs in the trash.  Also, if it smells a little funky you may want to toss it to be on the safe side.

Once you have pulled out your must haves, tossed the wannabes, and held onto everything you can't live without, your collection should be looking a little (a lot) smaller, leaving you tons of room for all future favorites!

Ta-da! That wasn't as painful as I thought it was going to be.  I'm so glad I had the opportunity to do this post because there was definitely a lot of clutter in my "vanity" area. I hope you find this post helpful and if you have any other tips/tricks, leave a comment!  I would love to hear from you!

2015 Beauty Wishlist

Hello my loves!

How insane is it that we are already in the middle of January? Wasn't Christmas just yesterday? Time is definitely flying and this month we have been seeing lots of new products for 2015 as well as a lot of old favorites!  So, since I have seen so many things that I want already, I thought that it was time for a wishlist!  I really thought that I would have trouble narrowing down my top choices, however it was surprisingly easy!  I was able to get my list down to the top 8 with no trouble whatsoever and when looking at everything all together I can see that there's a little bit of a pattern with all the rose gold/gold tones.  If this isn't a hint of my favorite hues then I don't know how else to show it.  Anyways, shall we get started? I think we shall!

1. BH Cosmetics 15 Piece Rose Gold Brush Set: I received a set of BH Cosmetic brushes in Decemeber as a birthday present from my best friend and since then I have found myself reaching for them more than my Real Techniques brushes.  I love how soft they are and that they came with a nice hard cylindar case.  Now I have my eye on these babies!  I love the rose gold and I think that these will be a great alternative to the Zoeva brushes that I have been lusting over.  I love the clutch case and the price can't be beat!

2. Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette: For the last year I have had my eyes on this little palette.  Whenever I go into a store that has it on display I always have to run my fingers over the pans and pickup a little bit of color to see how gorgeous the shades are.  It's just so pretty and the packaging is sleek!  It's the perfect size for an on-the-go makeup bag, but for some reason I haven't purchased it yet.  I think this year will be the year though!

3. Makeup Revolution Naked Chocolate Palette: There has been a lot of hype surrounding this budget makeup palette and from the swatches I have seen online, the hype is deserved.  This palette looks so gorgeous and I am eager to get my hands on it, but unfortunately I can't find it in stores in the US.  This will have to be an item that I wait for because I would really like to swatch it for myself before purchasing.

4. Too Faced Endless Summer Bronzer: I saw this in Sephora the other day and swatched it for the first time.  Honestly it was love at first sight when I saw the color on my fingers!  It is just the most beautiful shade of bronzer that I have ever seen and it has a little bit of shimmer to it as well which set it apart from other bronzers I have tried.  I can't wait to buy this when it gets closer to the summer months!

5. Lorac Unzipped Palette: I have never swatched this palette, but from the looks of it, it is one that I am going to love! Just like a lot of items on this list, it has the gold colors which I have been reaching for a lot over the past few months.  I know that the company just released the Unzipped Gold Shimmer & Matte palette, so it may be a toss up for me when I actually go to make a purchase.  Both palettes are equally beautiful.

6. Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection: Ever since receiving the email that these were available in Ulta, I have been lusting over them.  I have several of the original brushes and I have loved them dearly, so I have no doubt that these brushes will be a great addition to my ever growing brush collection once I get my hands on them!  Lately whenever I pop into the shop they have been sold out, so fingers crossed that the newness will wear off and I will be able to nab some soon!

7. Zoella Beauty Fizz Bar: I first saw these bars when Zoe showed them to viewers on her youtube channel and since then I have been interested in trying them.  I love using Lush bathbombs and bath fizzes, so I would like to think that I would like these as well.  I just wish that these were available in store someplace so that I wouldn't have to order it!  I am always more likely to buy something if I can find it in store and actually pick it up and look at it. Plus, then I can use it right away too!

8. Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer: This concealer and the foundation has been talked about so much by youtubers that I have been intereted in trying it for over a year! From what I have seen of it, it provides great coverage and it is affordable! However I can't find it in the US at any stores near me.  I think this might not be available in the United States, or it may be marketed under a different name?  If you know the answer to this, let me know!

I am honestly surprised at how small my wishlist is and that the items aren't all insanely expensive!  If only it would stay limited to these items!  Comment down below if you have tried any of these products and tell me what's on your wishlist for 2015!  Maybe we want some of the same things!

My Skincare Routine

Hello my loves!

Since the very beginning of the new year I have been seeing quite a few skincare routines posted up by several different bloggers, so I decided it was time for me to add my two cents into the plethora of posts related to this topic.

For me when it comes to skincare I have to be extremely careful when choosing products because my skin is very picky.  I have tried dozens of products that are supposed to be non drying and great for sensitive skin, but none of them have worked.  Up until the last six months or so I had been just washing my face with soap and water because I was tired of spending money on a product, trying it a few times, and then tossing it when my skin was completely dried out.  I was so annoyed with all the skincare companies because nothing seemed to work for me, but then I found my holy grail skincare company: Formula 10.0.6.

I stumbled upon this brand while browsing the shelves in Ulta.  At the time they were having a sale, so I picked up one of their products to try and as you can see I went back for more!  I just love the brand so much and their products are relatively inexpensive when it comes to skincare.  The way I use these products is: cleanser, mask, toner, moisturiser.  This process seems to keep my skin happy which makes me happy!  I love knowing that my skin is soft and not having to worry about my cheeks peeling in the winter.  Peeling skin in the summer is one thing, but in the winter it just seems to make me feel ten times worse about my skin.  In the summer you know you aren't the only one who got a little too much sun, but in the winter I feel that my skin stands out more because not everyone is dealing with dry, sensitive skin.  So, if you are in the same boat as me (skin wise) I would suggest looking into some of these products to try!

          Formula 10.0.6

-Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser: After washing my face, I like to start my day off with this cleanser.  It comes out of the tube as a liquid and then it lathers when you rub your hands together.  It has a nice fruity scent because of the passionfruit that is found in it and not only does it smell nice, but it works!  It helps my skin to look clean, clear, and healthy everyday!

-Pores Be Pure Skin Clarifying Mud Mask: Like the cleanser, this mask also smells fruity because it contains strawberry, yarrow, and rosemary.  It is recommended that this be used a few times a week, however I use it once a week and I always find my skin looking a little bit better than it did before I applied it.  I usually put this on right after the cleanser and then I let it sit for 10-15 minutes while I work on other parts of my nightly routine.  Then I wash it off with warm water and pat dry my skin.  I just love how much cleaner it makes my skin look after using it!

-So Totally Clean Sensitive Formula: After the cleanser and somenights, after the mask, I use this toner which has cucumber to cool and cleanse and sea kelp to detoxify, clear oil and heal impurities.  I love using this at night, but I love it even more in the morning!  The cooling that the cucumber provides helps to wake me up and it's just a nice and refreshing way to start the day.

          Rite Aid

-Moisturizing Lotion: This is the last product that I use in the morning and at night for my skin.  The formula is very gentle and it does not cause my skin to dry out at all!  Scent wise, it has a slight smell, however it is very light and I believe it is the oatmeal that gives it the scent, so if you don't like oatmeal, this lotion may not be the one for you.

Well, there is my morning and night skincare routine!  I highly recommend the 10.0.6 brand to anyone who has trouble with dry, sensitive skin.  I have had a positive experience with this company and I hope that if you choose to try them out that you are as successful as I have been!  Leave a comment below telling me about your skincare routine.  Have any of you tried any of these products?  Have they worked for you?  Let me know!

What's In My Makeup Bag?

Hello my loves!

Today I come to you with a little posting of goodies that I take with me whenever I am heading for an overnight!  Most of what you see here is part of my everyday makeup routine, however some things have been swapped out because of size constraints and laziness.  For example, I use my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette everyday, however it is too large for my favorite bag and I would prefer not to have to carry it separately or take a larger bag.  So, I make due with what I have and I am happy all the same.  Anyways, now onto all the goody goody gumdrops!

This is the makeup bag that I seem to grab for the most.  I purchased it recently from Forever 21 and it was only $5.90!  It is still available for purchase here.  When choosing this bag I fell in love with the pink and gold color combination.  The phrase "Bon Voyage" was another draw for me when choosing this bag.  I love to travel and it sets a little smile on my face whenever I see it because it brings back good memories!

As of now, this bag is my smallest makeup bag and I find this appealing because I can't over pack it with non essentials.  Everything that I put into this bag when going someplace is carefully considered, so I know I'm not going to toss a product in because I think I might use it.  However, this doesn't mean that I don't take a good deal of makeup with me.  Since I've gotten this bag I have become a pro at using every nook and cranny available!

See, pro packing right there!  Now, let's empty this baby out and see what goodies await us!

When I am away from home these are the products and tools that I always bring with me!
          Face
-E.L.F Eye Refresh: This is an inexpensive depuffer that also helps to eliminate dark circles.  It is a typical roller ball design which makes application a snap!  I love using this every morning because of the cooling effect it has.  It instantly wakes me up and it is quick drying which allows me to move through my makeup routine as quickly as possible!
-NYC Smooth Skin Fini Parfait BB Cream: I bought this on a whim and fell in love!  I purchased this in shade 01 Light and I find that it blends extremely well on my skin.  It leaves my skin noticeably brighter and I love it for that fact.  This BB Cream also provides minimal coverage which is just what I need!
-E.L.F Shimmering Facial Whip: In December I had read that this product in the shade Lilac Petal was an exact dupe for High Beam by Benefit, so I picked it up for $1.00 and I plan to repurchase when the little tube runs out!  I will admit that it is a little tricky to blend, but the results are lovely!  I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice highlighter or illuminator.
-E.L.F Blush: In the past I have always been one to go for pink blushes, but recently I found this blush in the shade Candid Coral and I absolutely love it!  It gives my cheeks a nice glow whenever I apply it and the pigmentation is wonderful for the price!  This is by far my favorite blush that I have ever tried.
-Maybelline New York Dream Bouncy Bronzer: I bought this back in the summer or fall.  I had been looking for a nice bronzer that wasn't too dark for my skin and I found this on discount.  It provides me with a nice natural glow that I love in the warmer months and on occasion in the winter.  Unfortunately, I think they may have discontinued it because I never see it in stores.
          Eyes
-Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer: This has been my go to primer since the summer!  It is very easy to apply and it actually works.  I love that I can put my eyeshadow on in the morning, work all day, and then come home to see it looking the same as when I first applied it.  I will admit that it is a little pricey for a primer, but it works!
-Stila Eyeshadow: Whenever I travel I always take this eyeshadow with me!  I received it about a year ago in a gift set and it is lovely.  It is in the shade Kitten which is a nice shimmery pink that compliments any skin tone nicely.
-Maybelline New York Master Drama Eyeliner: I've been using this eyeliner in the shade Bold Brown for a couple of years and I love it!  It applies smoothly and I can get a nice thin line in close to my lashes.  I have tried other liners that are similar and I always seem to come back to my trustee Master Drama!
-Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: I purchased this at the same time as the Too Faced Primer and it definitely lives up to the hype.  It lengthens and adds volume to lashes without clumping.  Plus, the brush is large and shaped like an hourglass which aids in application.  Since buying this mascara I have gotten so many compliments and many have said that my lashes still look natural when wearing this.
-Anastasia Brow Wiz: This is still pretty new to me, but it has quickly become a staple in my makeup bag.  I have it in the shade Medium Brown which matches my brows perfectly.  Application with this product is quick and easy and leaves brows looking natural.  Since receiving this as a gift I never leave the house without filling in my brows just a tad.
          Lips
-Forever 21 High Pigment Gloss:  It says high pigment in the name and it definitely is!  This has quickly become my favorite lip gloss and the Burgundy shade is perfect for this time of year.  One of the things that I like most about this gloss is that it isn't sticky.  There have been so many lip glosses that I have tried and thrown out because I couldn't stand the stickiness on my lips, so when i found this I was thrilled!
          Fragrance
-Crush by American Eagle Outfitters: I have used this perfume everyday since I received it for my birthday in December.  It is a miniature bottle, perfect for travel, and it smells nice and fresh.  To me it has a slight floral undertone mixed with the smell of rain.  I just love how it smells and that it isn't too strong.
          Tools
             -Blending Sponge
             -Eyelash Curler
             -Cute Panda Nail File
             -Real Techniques Shading Brush
             -Real Techniques Buffing Brush
             -Real Techniques Multi Task Brush

Well, there you have it!  That is everything that I fit into my makeup bag and can't travel without.  What products can't you travel without?  Leave a comment down below telling me of your travel beauty musts!

A New Year and the Return to Blogging

Hello my lovelies!

Welcome to 2015 and the rebirth of Beautiful Life!  It has been a little over six months since my last post on this blog and for that I am disappointed in myself and I would like to apologize to the few readers I have/had.  My life got extremely busy after graduation and something had to take the backburner for the time being.  Unfortunately that thing was blogging.  However, now I am back and I would like to stick with it along with a few other things.  So, without further ado, let's move onto the new years resolutions for 2015!

1. Read more---I can remember going through book after book when I was younger, but toward the end of high school and throughout college I never picked up a book to read for fun.  A lot of this I blamed on my English major.  We were assigned so many different texts to read that I never wanted to read outside of school work.  I find this to be very unfortunate, but ever since graduating in May I have been picking up books more often and actually finishing them!  Lately I have been on a murder mystery kick and have been reading a lot of James Patterson, but I do have "Girl Online" by Zoe Sugg sitting on my bedside table, waiting to be cracked open!

2. Be healthier---For as long as I can remember I haven't been the healthiest person.  I find that I stick with living a healthier life style for a few weeks and then something happens that makes me fall off the wagon.  So, this year I want to try to live healthier longer than I have in the past.  I find that setting short term goals helps me to achieve the results I want better than setting long term goals and I tend to stick with things longer if I look at them in this way.

3. Blog more---Last year when I first started Beautiful Life, my goal was to blog the whole year and as we all know, that didn't happen.  So, this year I am setting myself the same goal, however I am going to do things a little differently.  I remember I was trying to post as much as possible.  Looking back, I realize the quality of the posts may not have been the best-granted this is my first time blogging-however, I want to improve and in order to do this I am going to limit my self to one post a week for the first few months and if things are going well, then I may bump myself up to two.  It will all depend on what life is like at the moment and what I can handle.  It is important that we all know our limits and I recognize the fact that I was pushing mine last year.

4. Get a full-time job---I have been out of school since May and I have yet to get that job offer that I have been waiting for.  I have been on interviews and sent out tons of resumes, but no one seems to want to hire me.  This is a very frustrating and discouraging process, however I know that I just have to keep at it and stay positive.  Someone will hire me, it's just a matter of time.

5. Move out---By the end of 2015, if not before, I want to be living on my own.  I am 23 years old and I beleive that I am ready to be out in the big bad world doing my own thing.  Where I currently live, everything is about an hour away.  Shopping, movies, bars, etc. it's all an hours drive which is very unappealing to me, especially in the winter.  So, I hope to be closer to those things when I move and I hope that it happens sooner rather than later!

Well, those are my resolutions for this year and hopefully I can keep all of them!  After looking at my resolution post from last year, these seem much more realistic.  Leave a comment down below with some of your new years resolutions, maybe we have some of the same goals!

The Handwriting Tag

Hello my lovelies!

I saw this tag over on Sophiia's blog, Beauty by Sophiia, a while ago and bookmarked it instantly.  Things were so hectic with school and graduation that I haven't had time to focus on writing posts, but I have been on the prowl for ideas!  So, now that graduation is over, I broke out the school notebook one last time and wrote this out.

Here are the questions -

1. What is your name? And your blog?
2. What’s your blog URL?
3.Write: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
4. Favorite quote.
5. Favorite song.
6. Favorite band/singer.
7. Say anything you want.

I hope everyone can read my writing!

So, what do you guys think?  Does my handwriting look readable?  I always feel like my handwriting isn't as neat as it should be.  If I hadn't been using lined paper, you would have seen a little slant going on as well, but trust me, if you had given me a pencil this would look ten times better!

I hope you all enjoy this post and maybe some of you will try it out yourselves!  Leave a comment if you use the tag and let me know how it goes!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Until next time,
